| A QUICK INTRODUCTION FOR NEW MEMBERS _____________________________________ Us:- That staff and players of Hallowsgate have a passion for writing, realism, community and fun! We are experienced in the field of psychiatric themed role play, and have enough years of it under our belts to make a forum like Hallowsgate run smoothly and realistically.
- We are dedicated to our creative writing, and excited about creating and developing original, new characters, and exploring them fully. We also love to watch others' characters emerge and blossom!
- We strive to include everyone! Through an open community attitude in our out of character talk, to board wide events and inclusive live chat group therapy sessions, we actively try to get as many people involved in plots and play as we can!
- We're a helpful community. Many of us have been in this sort of roleplay theme for a good few years now, so if you have questions and concerns, don't be afraid to ask! You may even find we'll be willing to help you with applications the first time, and to discuss the psychiatric issues you choose for your character.
- We are not a short-term whim. Much of our community has been together through a couple of different boards for the past three years or so, and we are still around. We intend to be here for a while!
You:- We are actively seeking new players who share our passion for writing, storytelling and creating unique and new characters. We're all about the story and the fun, and we hope our players will be too!
- You do not have to have prior psychiatric knowledge. Most of us did not when we got together. However, you should be willing to learn as we go along, and not be afraid to ask for help or advice if you feel you need it.
- Don't be daunted by the amount of information we've provided you, or the length of the application. We strive for realism and hope to provide you with the tools necessary to find your way. Again, if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask one of us.
- We particularly look for players who get along well with others. We're a friendly and chatty community and we like to enjoy being around the other players and staff. We don't like to see a lot of drama in the public arena, and we try very hard to eradicate it when we do.
- Don't be afraid to get involved! Don't be afraid to talk about your new character in the chat box, so that people get to know them a little. Don't be afraid to jump in on the open threads! If you're feeling left out or passed over, let us know. We want to get everyone involved, and no-one should be left out.
- It goes without saying that we hope you'l read the few threads in our required reading board before you begin an application. They are there to help guide you through the initial process of joining Hallowsgate and getting accepted. So bear with us, because it will be worth it!
Hallowsgate:- Hallowsgate hospital is a haunted asylum. Ghosts can and do pop up in threads without warning, and the building can have a mind of its own sometimes. Be aware that Hallowsgate is actively haunted.
- Hallowsgate has a number of abandoned locations which are in the out of bounds sections. To play in these boards you must buy a (cheap!) reward from the rewards thread. But don't worry, you accumulate points just through posting!
- Hallowsgate is a psychiatric institution at the end of the day, and it is run as such. One of our board mottos is "In character actions have in character consequences." If your character is caught breaking in character rules, they may well be disciplined. Otherwise, where's the fun in breaking the rules, right?
- Accidents and miracles happen. Since Hallowsgate has something of a mind of its own, keep an eye out for posts regarding unexpected happenings in your threads! You never know, you might get lucky, or you might just be very unlucky. Either way, have fun with it!
Characters:- We are almost always looking for staff characters. It's all well and good to have a lot of patients, but when there are no staff to wrangle them, we struggle. So do consider playing a staff character too. They have just as much --if not more -- fun than patient characters, and we often hold staff-only events for them, as a reward for their hard work.
- Characters should be realistic, at the end of the day. We love to see a lot of thought put into back stories and how their issues effect them. We don't like to see massive plot holes or unreasonable character traits that might remind us of the dreaded 'Mary Sue' archetype. Remember, you can have just as much fun with a realistic character as a fantasy one, especially at Hallowsgate.
- As we mentioned, you don't have to have prior psychiatric knowledge to join our community, but a little research goes a long way! In the character creation post, we provided you with links to pages discussing the approved issues, and we really hope that you'll give your chosen issue(s) a quick read so that you know what you're dealing with. This really helps the people who play the psychiatrists too, because they can't treat patient with (A) diagnosis if they're actually exhibiting (B). It will only take you a couple of minutes, and again, we're here to help if you have any questions!
In closing, once again we'd like to welcome you to Hallowsgate Hospital, and we hope that you'll like what you find and consider sticking with us for a while. Regards,
