In my junior year of high school, I really enjoyed tripping and took acid quite often. I haven't done it in years, though. Not necessarily my thing anymore.


Please describe, to the best of your ability, your emotional and mental state of wellbeing:

I feel like I'm... drowning. There's a pressure on my head, wrapping around my throat. It's like I can't escape it. I feel hopeless, most days. I don't know when it started- it's all sort of become a blur lately. It varies, really. Some days it's a lot more intense than others. When it gets worse, I only become more anxious. Sometimes there's too much time in the day, others there's too little. I'm always nervous and paranoid. I feel alone usually as well. I know I wouldn't feel it anymore if they would just allow me to see Elliot.

Avery has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and dependent personality disorder. He has been prescribed Xanax which is to be taken in 25 mg doses three times a day.

Have you ever been hospitalised or referred to regular outpatient care due to these ailments or associated incidents? If so, please note where, and at roughly what age:

Avery was hospitalized at age seventeen for roughly around three months due to a suicide attempt.

How have these ailments affected you and your life? Are there any major life instances you feel have been directly affected by these ailments, such as suicide attempts, criminal activities, etc?:

It's difficult for Avery to handle serious forms of responsibility because of the wall of anxiety that he surrounds himself in. Pursuing the goals he had previously set for himself is now nearly impossible and every day tasks have become a battle all on their own for him. On multiple occasions during our therapy sessions, Avery has expressed that his anxiety was the main factor of deciding whether or not it was time to commit suicide. He saw it as his only escape route and instead of trying to work towards rehabilitating himself, Avery found more comfort in ending it all. After the incident with his former high school teacher, Avery cannot properly allow himself to form healthy, adult relationships with others and only forms a dependent attachment to the individual. It's also sparked many disagreements and fights with members of his family, including his parents, and his few friends.

What is your social life like? Do you have many friends or relationships? How are your family relationships?:

Despite Avery's dependency on others, he finds it very difficult to make friends because of his typically timid and shy demeanor. When he does grow close enough to someone, though, Avery clings onto them closely even if the relationship is unhealthy. The partners he latches onto vary in gender and age, however he usually falls under the spell of self-assured males.

Do you believe your life circumstances have contributed to any ailments? If so, what circumstances, and why do you feel they have contributed?:

Avery has always projected submissive and dependent behaviors, but a past relationship with one of his high school teachers has been the most serious event to have come out of it. When Avery began his freshman year he became unusually close with his Algebra 2 teacher, Mr. Elliot Hitch, whom had been accused with inappropriately fraternizing with students before. The two became extremely close and Avery spent most of his free time during the school day with Mr. Hitch. About two months into the school year, Elliot allowed the relationship to take a more romantic approach and that was when Avery's attachment to him truly began to grow. One of Avery's classmates admitted to having seen the two leave the building together multiple times and other teachers agreed on how they had all found the relationship to be unnerving. During our sessions together, Avery speaks very highly of Mr. Hitch, saying he's an intelligent man and that he was caring and thoughtful when the two were together. He also has said that Elliot was often prone to having random fits of anger where he would become violent, but that he had only hurt Avery a handful of times. Mr. Hitch was fired around six months into the year after being caught with a different female student of his, leaving Avery devastated and the two were said to have stopped communicating shortly afterwards.

If you could change one past event that has happened to you, what would it be, and why?:

I don't really know. Nothing awful has ever happened to me. I guess I wouldn't have tried to kill myself if I knew how much it would hurt my parents afterward.

Do you wish to rehabilitate from your ailment(s)? If so, how do you feel this would best be accomplished?:

Yes, I mean if they're truly hurting me as much as everyone else says they are. Sometimes I don't see the problem and I just want them to stop patronizing me, but then sometimes I feel like I can agree. I don't know.


Where did you grow up? Please list the location(s) and describe what it was like growing up there:

Most of my childhood was spent in New York City with my mother and my dad. We had a nice little townhouse and I remember always playing out in the street with the other kids who lived there. It was nice, I felt carefree, then I started to get older and everything seemed so much larger than before. We started to move a lot after I turned nine. I guess I should feel grateful, now I can say that I've lived in over twenty countries. We usually just jumped from place to place in Europe, then when my mother began to miss the States, we went back and settled into North Carolina. I think I was thirteen then.

What was your family life like? Did you spend much time with your parents? Do you have any siblings? If so, what are your relationships like?:

Most of my time was spent with my parents and my little brother, Asa. We all got along well and they're probably my favorite people in the world. I was closest with my father, though. We both have similar interests, so I think that's why it is. Everything changed after what happened with Mr. Hitch. Asa seemed more uncomfortable around me and he spent most of his time out of the house. My mother was always watching over my shoulder, making sure I wasn't going to do anything impulsive like I've always done since I was little. It seemed like I couldn't get out quick enough when I turned eighteen. They still call and visit, but it's different. Like we're friends awkwardly running into each other at the supermarket.

What was school like? Did you have any problems? Did you enjoy school? What were your grades like?:

I loved studying, which kind of conflicted with my hatred for school. I never worked well in structured environments so my parents often were taking me out of public school and putting me into other programs until I became uncomfortable in that as well. My grades were very good and I was in the highest percentage of my class. I even tried to go to university recently, but I couldn't do it because my performance began suffering drastically.

Did you engage in any extracurricular activities, such as academic, artistic, or sporting clubs?:

I was on the track team the first couple of months of freshman year, but then after my parents found out about what happened at school I was taken out and then my father taught me at home.

What was work like? Did you have any problems? Did you enjoy your work? What were your coworker relationships like?:

I worked at the same used bookstore off and on throughout the past couple of years. It's nice. I feel relaxed when I'm there, like I'm in control of myself and what goes on around me. I had a panic attack though a couple of months ago during the job and now I'm not allowed to work there again. It's nothing personal, but I'm still bitter.

Lastly, please tell us about yourself. How do you feel about yourself and what you have done with your life? If you have committed crimes, how do you feel about those now? What are your hopes for the future?:

I'm really unhappy with myself. I know I've let so many people down because of what I've done and how I cope with things. I make everyone angry, myself included. I just wish I could make it go away, so I could have a normal life and get to do the typical things that other people are always raving about. I want to get away from North Carolina and the memories I have here. New York City is where I belong and I think I've known that for awhile now. I want to be able to love someone and have it be 'natural' and not one sided. Then I'll finally feel peace and composure.

Avery is very easily manipulated when given the prospect that he latch onto someone sturdy, no matter how much it'll hurt him. Even if he denies it, he knows the feelings he felt for Elliot were not mutual however he still feels a sort of affection for the man in spite of it all.
