Medical History

Do you have any ongoing medical issues for which you require treatment or medication?:
Elise is prone to blood vessel based migraines. She treats them with Naproxen (500 mg) and bedrest. They have a frequency of about one per month. More in times of stress. They are often triggered by strong perfumed sences (ex. flavoured cigarellos, room sprays, ect.)

Are you aware of any allergies? If so, please list allergy, age of onset and any medications or treatments you require or recieve:
None

Have you had any surgeries or invasive procedures in the past? If yes, please list reason and approximate age of procedure:
Elise had her wisdom teeth removed at the age of seventeen.

Do you take any medications or supplements daily? Do you follow any treatment plans? Please list medications or treatments, and reasons below:
Elise starts each morning with a women's multivitamin, a calcium magnesium supplement, and a immunity-boost supplement.

Do you use tobacco, consume alcohol, or use any other drugs including street drugs and/or prescription medications not prescribed to you? If yes, please list number of packs a day, number of drinks a day, and/or drugs consumed below:
Elise drinks socially and rarely to exess.

_____________________________________
Psychiatric Screening

Please describe, to the best of your ability, your emotional and mental state of wellbeing:
Elise has been considerably distraught for the past months. Her moods had been rather dark: generally alternating between aloofness, anger, and depression. Since her failure to reunited with Jessie Ramieriz she has made no secret of her true feelings.

Have you been diagnosed with any psychiatric or psychological ailments? Please list any diagnoses below, and the treatments or medications prescribed to you. Please include name of medications, dosage, and number of doses per day:
I have diagnosed Miss Holden with Stokholm Syndrome as well as Hybristophilia at a later date. I have tried to avoid medicating Elise until recently. Beginning with Ativan (0.5 mg and later 1 mg as required) and only in instances when she is having difficulty keeping a handle on her emotions.

Admittedly, neither myself or my colleges at our facility have much experience in treating these conditions. Thus why we are looking for someone more experienced in these cases like these to help Elise in her healing process. Conventional therapy has shown little progress in Elise's new state of mind.

Have you ever been hospitalised or referred to regular outpatient care due to these ailments or associated incidents? If so, please note where, and at roughly what age:
Elise is currently residing in Coastal Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Centre at her family and lawyer's discretion. In the last year she has both brought a gun to the courthouse and attempted suicide, so obviously something had to be done to control her to keep her from doing anything rash.

How have these ailments affected you and your life? Are there any major life instances you feel have been directly affected by these ailments, such as suicide attempts, criminal activities, etc?:
Elise now has a criminal record after being charged with carrying a concealed weapon. She also cannot drink for the next four months following her stomach pump procedure that followed her suicide attempt.

What is your social life like? Do you have many friends or relationships? How are your family relationships?:
At this point in time Elise has dropped contact with her former friends and her relationship with her family is extremely strained, in serious danger of being severed all together. Elise resents the fact her family looked for her, paid her ransom, and subsequently . The only relationships she maintains at the present time is with men who are currently incarcerated. Jessie Ramierez being the inmate she most frequently writes to, however a number of other violent inmates in Georgia State Prison.

Do you believe your life circumstances have contributed to any ailments? If so, what circumstances, and why do you feel they have contributed?:
Miss Elise Holden was kidnapped two years ago by one Jessie Ramirez. She spent a total of four months in his possession, moving from place to place and trying to safely collect a ransom demand from her family. Elise has informed me that gradually her feelings turned from the initial fear to something of a feeling of adventure. Then to attraction. She feels fully in love with him at this point.

Since his incarceration, Elise has gone to visit him whenever she's been able. It seems the vicinity as well as some encouragement from Mr. Ramirez caused her to begin corresponding with other inmates. The letters are explicit and seem to hold a kind of fantasy wish fulfillment for Miss Holden. She has been escorted out of the prison visiting areas on multiple occasions for inappropriate behavior.

If you could change one past event that has happened to you, what would it be, and why?:
She rarely speaks about regret. The subject seems to make her uncomfortably and she insists that she chooses not to dwell on the past. When pressed for an answer she will admit (tearfully and emotionally) that she regrets not being clever enough to break Jessie out of incarceration when she had the chance. She seems to deeply fear for his well-being in prison.

Do you wish to rehabilitate from your ailment(s)? If so, how do you feel this would best be accomplished?:
Like many Stockholm syndrome sufferers, Elise denies her illness. She insists that Jessie (as well as the other inmates she corresponds with) are misunderstood by the majority of society. Jessie especially, she will defend adamantly. Often defending her point with his love of her, his dog, and his desire to "create a better life for himself".

Environmental History

The remainder of the application will be filled out by Miss Holden herself.

Where did you grow up? Please list the location(s) and describe what it was like growing up there:
I grew up in Savannah, though my parents also have a vacation home in Belize where I spent much of my time as a child. Both places are lovely. I enjoyed my childhood quite a bit, but of course, I was much younger then, naive. Everything was very WASPy, very Stepford. It was all I knew, all my parents cared for me to know.

What was your family life like? Did you spend much time with your parents? Do you have any siblings? If so, what are your relationships like?:
It was-as I said above-a sheltered existence. I was the middle child and only girl of a five person upper class family. My brothers are Samuel (32) and Eugene(27) they're both blissfully happy in the lives allotted to us. Both happily married, Ivy league education, with wives toting rosy cheeked babies. Obviously my parents are entirely pleased with how they turned out.

I'd rather not discuss my parents.

What was school like? Did you have any problems? Did you enjoy school? What were your grades like?:
I enjoyed school, I got along well with my classmates, and my grades were exceptional as I had a private tutor.

Did you engage in any extracurricular activities, such as academic, artistic, or sporting clubs?:
I went on exchange for a semester in Scotland my sophomore year. I took film acting lessons and was the president of the school social dance committee in my senior year. After high school I took a gap year to travel and completed a BA after returning, I majored in human ecology.

What was work like? Did you have any problems? Did you enjoy your work? What were your coworker relationships like?:
I've never really had a formal, full-time job. Most of my time before meeting Jessie was spent volunteering my time to different causes. The closest I had to a job in the purest spence of the word has been an internship with the Massie heritage centre. I have always been friendly with my co-workers, volunteer work is extremely enjoyable and rewarding to me.
Since meeting Jessie my interests have changed. I had begun to put forward a request to volunteer with inmates working towards their G.E.D. but I have yet to hear back.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime or misdemeanour? If yes, please explain, list conviction, and list any sentences associated with convictions:
I have been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. I was only fined.

Lastly, please tell us about yourself. How do you feel about yourself and what you have done with your life? If you have committed crimes, how do you feel about those now? What are your hopes for the future?:
Obviously, I am something of a changed woman. My experiences with Jessie opened my eyes to so much. I found there was this whole type of people I'd been cut off from when there was so much I could learn from them. Certainly the switch of my photo being in the society pages to the trashy tabloids is regrettable, but soon enough the attention will die down and no one will care what I do with my time.
Jessie opened up a new side of me. He makes me smile, makes my heart-race, all the things a proper lover is supposed to do. He well and truly excites me the way no man in my previous social circle could, and I'm thankful to have met him. He's promised to be good, get out early for good behaviour. Honestly, his was hardly a crime. So what if he took me, waved a weapon around- what are weapons? Merely another object. He just needed the money. Simple as that. Once he realized he need me more, we both knew he'd never hurt me. We were just going to get the money and run away together. It wasn't as if my parents needed it. They should have just left us alone...

Out of Character Section

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:
Elise is fairly straight-forward as is her therapist. In case it wasn't clear she's largely just resentful towards her family for their part in her ransom and Jessie's resulting arrest. The doorman to her building was killed in the kidnapping (and there is something about knowing he killed for her that's certainly exciting to her). She and Jessie slept together two weeks into her kidnapping. She'd describe their connection as “electric”.

THERAPY NOTES
_____________________________________

    Date: 29/06/2012
    Attending: Dr. Finn McAlister
    Session With: Dr. Sean Whelan
    Session: Group Therapy

Therapy Notes: Elise was the first patient into the session and one of only two to greet me. When she was asked to tell me something about herself she cited an achievement of hers: her degree in Human Ecology. The topic was family and Elise was asked her thoughts on the subject. She gave a very straight forward answer, that family were people related to you by blood or through legal channels. I asked if she considered no one else to be family and once again she very direct with her answer. She replied that she was speaking generally and that her definition applied to everyone.

During the second round of questions I made it a point to ask her about her family specifically. She detailed how many siblings she had and went into extended relatives but there was almost nothing personal about her response. She continued on, saying that her feelings toward them were in flux. I asked how they were in flux and she described herself as changing while her family did not. Yet again, another impersonal and vague answer. In continued to press the issue as she didn't seem to be upset with my prying, more irritated than anything, and eventually she gave me an answer that was actually specific and about her. She said that her taste in men had shifted to those who had been incarcerated .

Additional: When working with Elise persistence appears to be important. She's willing to answer questions but will do so in an impersonal manner or taking an obvious logical approach. Her response to the family question was a text book definition but from there she was vague on her answers. It is important to focus questions and to not let her dance around a subject.

Follow-Up: As stated above, keep focused on topics when working with Elise. Make sure to follow a line of questioning until she responds with something more than a vague, open ended answer.

PostSubject: Re: Elise Holden   Elise Holden EmptyTue Jul 10, 2012 10:07 am

This Letter was written by Ms. Holden on 5th July and intercepted before it could be mailed.

Elise Holden wrote:
    My Darling,

Being away from you was hard enough before. I don't know why they all see fit to torture me this way.

I never appreciated us being in the same state before. I should have. It's amazing the difference it made. Sure there was distance, glass, bars, walls between us. But I could still look around and see Georgia. The native trees, the smell of the air. They all held the potential to remind me of you. Here there's so much less like that. Every things different. Just a little, but it's enough to throw me off entirely. It's like... Before I could feel you. In the air and the dirt. Your sheer aura. It was that strong to me.

    Here I don't feel anything.

Or rather, I feel the way I used to. I'm an arms length away from everything again. An observer at worst, a snarky peanut gallery at best. They've put my rubber gloves back on. Fuckers.

I miss you so much. I miss my heart racing and my body going hot. Even in the dead of winter.

I know you'd want me to at least try to be happy here. I'm managing, if only superficially. You and I both know what I need, what we need. I don't know if anyone here could possibly be a place holder for you, not even close, but I'm keeping my eyes open.

At night I find myself gripping my hands in my hair, trying to get that feeling of you pulling it, bringing me in tight. It's just a bitter reminder some nights, every so often it gets the job done. Still the bed's cold. I need you back.

    All my love,

    Elise.

THERAPY NOTES
_____________________________________

    Date: August 19, 2012
    Attending: Dr. Finn McAlister
    Session: Individual Therapy

Therapy Notes: Today's session with Elise Holden was more of a "get to know you" session, in attempts to earn a sliver of her trust. I wish to get to know each of my patients more, in an attempt to accommodate them in future sessions. I found she had an interest in movies, and isn't fond of sweets. I then asked about her home life in Savannah, attempting to steer the conversation more about her past than random little details. However, Elise answered with a rather impersonal answer of just "it was beautiful and had everything" I pressed on to ask about her family, and she continued to answer rather impersonally, only touching base on her family, and nothing more. It was to be expected, honestly, as this was simply a get to know you session. I did not anticipate life stories, and the like. However, I also found she enjoys Pico de gallo, and I will be providing that in the next session for her. I opened the floor to questions, and she proceeded to ask "Do I look like a person who ought to be in a place like this?" In which I answered that "It depends, Elise. Looks versus action are two different things. People can look perfectly normal..or what is considered normal by society, and yet they have an illness. And it can be the other way around. TO be honest, I wont know until I know more about you, more than just the surface information. I'm here to help you, not hinder you. So to answer your question...no, physically, you do not. But actions in the past have warranted a stay here, and here we are. In my office. I would like to help you, though, Elise, because you deserve to be home with your family in Savannah. Everyone deserves to be home." She also asked if her letters were going to be sent to their assigned destination and I said that depends on the destination, in which she proceeded to say they were sent to Jessie. I gave a professional answer that "At this time, I feel the letters to Jessie would be detrimental to Elise's treatment" Elise proceeded to get upset and wanted to inform me that crazy is a lighter word than illness. She said she would take time to reflect and the session ended.

Additional: Elise tends to give impersonal answers, and I believe that she believes we, as therapists, are keeping her here when she does not deserve to be here. She also isn't fond of the term illness, and prefers crazy, even though I believe that she thinks she is perfectly healthy.

Follow-Up: Keep tabs on her letters, and monitor her correspondances. No correspondances are to occur between Elise Holden and Jessie Ramirez.

THERAPY NOTES
_____________________________________

    Date:October 20, 2012
    Attending: Dr. Finn McAlister
    Session With: Dr. Finn McAlister
    Session: Group Therapy

Therapy Notes: The intention for this session was to introduce the idea of the subconscious and how our minds tend to cover up things we wish to repress from our memory. I instructed the group to introduce themselves and state one thing they enjoyed about Hallowsgate Hospital. I then lead into an imagination exercise:

Quote :
You are walking down a road.... As you are walking, you see a house. Look at it. Notice its details.... Walk towards it. What do you notice about it?.... You start to walk around the house, looking at it as you walk.... Now you are halfway around. Notice the details of the house as you continue to walk around it.... Now you come back to where you were when you started.... As you walked around the house, you noticed a way to get in. Now go into the house.... What do you see?.... Explore the house, what's inside?.... As you were exploring, you noticed a secret door leading to a secret room. Go inside that room. What do you see?.... Now leave the secret room and go back into the main part of the house.... Now leave the house. As you are walking away from it, you look back at it one more time....what do you see?"

I proceeded to ask each patient what they imagined. Elise Holden described a cabin whose secret room contained an antique writing desk with a lot of letters. She then went on to state that she liked to get snail mail. I asked if she missed her communication lines and she said yes, and then asked me how could we fix this.

Additional: Elise’s snarky attitude tends to lead for sarcastic remarks. Look past this and do not bait her.

Follow-Up: Per Usual, monitor her mail intake, and do not allow any mail from Jesse Ramierez.

This is the original copy of Ms. Holden's letter, as it did not make it past the screening process.

Quote :
My dearest love Jessie,

I know this letter won't get to you thanks to these fucking fascists. But habits are hard to break. I know I should just, crumple it up, not try to send it. But don't think I could do that for words meant for you. I have to do what I can and hope they fuck it up.

The longer I'm away from you the further you seem. The ache in my chest only seems to grow. I try to do my thing and smile. Be that bright firework of a woman you've loved. But everyday that passes by, I just feel myself flickering out, my very light going dull. The days are stringing together in this kind of endless monotony I can't seem to break.

I'd give anything for our lives to be different right now. I fall asleep at night only to dream of us living in together in small town Mexico or overseas in some bustling European city where no one knows our names. Any chill in the air chased off by you warm strong arms around me.

During the days I dream of how we'd get there. But that's a story for another day.

All my love,

Elise.

Dearest Lissie,

I've tried to write to you a few times since you left, but it's been difficult, given what was said. Your father told me to take my time to keep from getting too troubled about it. So I hope you don't feel like we've forgotten you, or don't think about you. God knows we do. Everyday. I haven't stopped praying for your return, your health. And even though you've said you don't want them, my thoughts are always with you.

Your Vouge subscription was starting to pile up on us, so I thought it was time for a care package. They're heavy, so I only sent the most recent two. But let me know if you'd like the back issues and I'll send them. I just know you hate Lady Gaga, so I thought you wouldn't mind missing that one. I've gone ahead and renewed it for another year for you and switched the address to the hospital, so hopefully they should start coming straight to you. Sorry it took so long, your father and I were in Belize with Eugene and Stacy and the kids, so we all had our hands quite full and Lucinda didn't want to bother us with it until we returned.

I know it gets terribly cool where you are, so I also wanted to send along some winter wear. I hope you like it, your cousin Anna was ordering herself one in a different colour and we thought the teal quite suited you. If you need anything more, do let me know. I miss shopping with you, so shopping for you is the next best thing.

The family is fine, but missing you. Stuart just put though a big deal at work so everyone's been celebrating. Of course, it all feels strange without you here to lead the toast. We're planning to spend the holiday in Belize. Savannah just doesn't feel right without you.

I hope you're getting better, than your mind is starting to clear. But if that's not the case, I hope you're at least happy. I miss seeing my beautiful daughter smile the way she used to. I'm sending along a photo of you and Anna from Christmas two years ago. You know it's one of my favorites. Thought it might help you remember the reasons you have to try and get well. We miss you so much, Lissie. We need you back home next Christmas, please try for us.

Love,
Mom
