Employment Interview

Please list position(s) for which you are applying:

Lead Physician

Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

I am looking to relocate to a place and position in which I can better apply my talents and experience to the work ahead, in a setting that can allow me more face time with patients who need my assistance. I am eager to leave the city setting and establish myself as a member of a more specialised team, in a quieter location.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

I am very dedicated to my work and the well-being of my individual patients, as well as possessing ample qualifications for the position and the experience necessary to conduct myself accordingly in any manner of situations.

Do you posses the necessary qualifications for the position(s) for which you are applying? If yes, please list them below:

Yes.

A-Levels Biology & Chemistry - Ages 16-18
PhD Internal Medicine - Ages 18-23, Kings College, London
General Medical Council (GMC) Program - Ages 23-25, Kings College Hospital, London
MCs Postgraduate Haematology - Age 25-26, Kings College Hospital, London

What other qualifications or skills do you possess which you feel will aid your performance in the chosen position(s)?:

I am proficient both in a clinical, administrative, and lab setting, holding a postgraduate focus in haematology. This means that I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, run my own labs, or fill out paperwork. I have a mild but realistic bedside manner heavily based on science and available facts. I am level-headed and efficient in emergency situations.

Have you worked in this type of position or facility before? If so, where and when?:

I have not worked officially in a psychiatric facility before outside of psychiatric ward rotations during my residency at Kings College Hospital, however, I feel confident that I would easily adapt and fulfil the needs of this position above and beyond what may be expected of me. As an emergency room physician during part of my time at Tulane medical in New Orleans, I have also had a hand in the intake process for some psychiatric cases.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions and responsibilities there:

Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans, LA, 2006-Present - Worked as lab technician/haematologist during my first two years employment, before taking up a position as emergency room physician for three years, and transitioning to a leadership role in this department during the night shifts from the past year. My responsibilities have ranged from lab based, to hands-on, to administrative during my time here.

King's College Hospital, London, 1998-2006 - Intermittently & concurrent with schooling at times, with many different positions, my residency, and my post graduate studies.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

I think my experience in a variety of fields will help me to fulfil any tasks given to me in the position of lead physician, as well as to handle emergency and routine medical situations. Particularly my experience as emergency room physician has prepared me for many situations you might anticipate in a psychiatric facility, and has also reinforced my capacity to maintain calm and efficiency in otherwise harrowing situations.

Psychological Screening

Please describe yourself to the best of your ability, in only five words. ('And' will not count towards these.):

Organised, efficient, dedicated, level-headed, professional.

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

I am very partial to puzzles, such as crosswords and sudoku, which I find calming and therapeutic. I'd say my usual methods for relaxation have served me well.

Please list three traits about yourself that you consider negative, and three traits about yourself that you consider positive:

As a negative, I suppose I can be somewhat aloof at times, easily getting lost in my work or hobbies. Some might say that I'm a little clumsy at times, though I tend to stay vigilant on the job. And I can be a little hot tempered in my personal life if I feel I'm being victimised or cornered unnecessarily.

On the positive side, however, I keep a level head when it comes to my work and anything to do with it, including how I conduct myself around patients and co-workers. I'm a very organised individual who likes my surroundings to be just so, both at work and at home, and though I can be aloof at times, I feel I tend to be approachable and friendly towards patients and those with whom I work.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I would have moved to the United States much sooner. Because I enjoy the way of life and the people much better than back in London.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

I would not do it, and would request that either the task be renegotiated or my superior find another to complete it, and not involve me.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

t would depend on the offence. Endangering staff and patients would call for me to report this person. A minor infraction would more likely lead to me approaching them myself to resolve the situation.

If your application for employment to Hallowsgate Hospital is approved, will you agree to sign a full non-disclosure agreement, knowing that you would be unable to talk about any treatments or the patients with anyone not also employed by Hallowsgate Hospital?:

Yes.

Environmental Screening

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I grew up in an admittedly affluent are of north central London. it was a privileged upbringing to be certain, but not without its trials and tribulations. I was not a very popular boy, and had some struggles with academic life. But I suppose things could have been much worse for me, even if I would not necessarily, easily consider my upbringing a cheerful one.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

I am not currently in a relationship, and the acquaintances I've made in New Orleans will be remaining behind as I move on in life. I consider myself approachable and friendly.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

A career in medicine has been a goal since childhood, and I've had very little reason to veer from the course.

Were you ever a member of the armed forces or of a law enforcement or security agency? If yes, please list rank and branch, or company name and location:

No.

Do/Did you ever abuse controlled substances, including but not limited to alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs and tobacco?:

I smoke, about a half a pack a day, and I enjoy the occasional drink.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If yes, please list conviction(s) and served sentence(s) below:

No.

Out of Character Section

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:

Okay, so... there are... one or two porky pies on Cecil's application. Let's see if I can ver them all without writing a novel.

For starters, Cecil hates everything to do with rural anything. He hates the countryside. he hates the outdoors. He hates animals. So why, I hear you ask, is he relocating to the middle of nowhere, West Virginia? There was an... incident at Tulane which he'd rather not turn into a full inquiry, wherein a terminally ill, elderly patient somehow came into the possession of a quantity of morphine enough to overdose on. No-one knows that Cecil supplied this, but he is so rattled by what he did that it's enough to make him high tail it, even if he's not a suspect. He is not without a conscience.

When Cecil says he's 'organised', what he really means is that he's neurotic, bordering into the obsessive compulsive spectrum, some might say. Largely this stems from control issues, and keeping his own.... personal demons and needs at bay. Cecil is a clinical sexual masochist. However, he snot a submissive personality type, which rather complicates life for him. He tries to keep himself distracted through a frankly insane upkeep of meticulously groomed house-plants and crossword puzzle books.

Cecil -is- in fact terminally clumsy. At 6'2, he's all legs and arms. But not all of his accidents are totally involuntary...

The reason he left London is also another big part of his web of lies. Since the beginning of college Cecil lived with another male who could be best described as a sadistic sociopath. I wouldn't really call them lovers in the same way I wouldn't call a serial killer and his victims 'professional associates'. After years and years of abuse (which cultivated Cecil's perculiar personal needs) he finally had enough, and fled the country. He is still on the run.

Furthermore, Cecil never wanted to be a doctor. it was a career thrust upon him by over-privileged and over-bearing parents. he was an only child, and the odd-boy-out. he suffered a lot of abuses at school, and was forced to live a life he hated. As a doctor, he is now still living that life for the most part, despite the fact that he could it and do whatever he wanted. He's still a little under the influence of his parents, even though he barely speaks to them any more. It's just trained into him.
