Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

I’ll be honest; my hospital is downsizing and this was the most interesting job listing I found. I’ve mostly worked in hospitals or donated my time to a small neighbourhood health clinic in Baltimore and I think its time I expand my knowledge base into psychiatric nursing.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

Because I am good at what I do, and I treat patients with fairness and compassion. I know how and when to simply observe and to speak up when I am sure my own knowledge can be helpful. I’m enthusiastic about Nursing and this particular opportunity.

Absolutely, I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Texas at Austin and my Nursing credentials from Johns Hopkins.

I speak fluent spanish along with ASL (American sign language) and have experience with medical record keeping.

No, I have not but I am willing to learn and can do so quickly.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions and responsibilities there:

I’ve worked at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore as a Nurse Practitioner from 2007-2012. Ther my responsibilities were everything from pre and postoperative care, occasionally critical care, deskwork and data entry. Pretty much whatever needed to be done on my shift that fell into the purview of nursing staff.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

At five years into my nursing career I have experience and good instincts, I know how to handle patients and most of the basic clerical work that make a nursing station function. I haven’t directly worked with psychiatric patients outside of some class work and a few evening rotations. Regardless, it all comes down to common sense.

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

Music, really good music always helps me relax when I'm feeling overwhelmed or stressed. And window shopping online, it's silly but looking at things you don’t really need or shopping for an event thats still a few months off can be a good distraction, also baking and hats.

For the negative I know I'm stubborn, not to the point of being stupid but I can get a bit dug in when I believe that I'm right. I can be naïve, I was rather sheltered as a child and adolescent and it still shows. Finally, I can be slow to forgive at times.

I'm reliable, if I am expected or needed to perform a task I'm on it and it will be done, I'm really friendly with patients and fellow staff, and I'm an optimist; I look for the good, at least I try to, in all people and events.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I would take back telling my stepsister Zuni I hated her when we were kids.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

The first thing I would do is talk to my superior, explaining clearly and frankly why I cannot do this, why I am opposed to the action to see if we can find a solution. if there is no way to convince them otherwise the I will not and cannot do this task then I will refuse. I don’t see any point in compromising my morals for my job.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

I'm going to answer each one separately:
Stealing- I would give them a single opportunity to stop and if possible return/replace whatever they have stolen.
Breaking rules and Endangering safety- Depending on the situation I would report them, again it's risking the safety of staff and patients not to. In all three scenarios If I felt they could not be reasoned with I would talk to them, if not I wouldn’t have much choice but to talk to a superior about their conduct.

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I grew up in I suppose a lower middle class household in Marshall, Texas. My mother died when I was almost 5 years old. My father and uncle raised my four older brothers and I after that until daddy remarried when I was 9. After the honeymoon we moved to Nacogdoches Texas, where my stepmother Talia, was from. I have four older brothers and a slightly older sister Azunica. I had a great childhood, Zuni and I had to adjust to each other though, She was a tomboy and I was not at all.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

I'm not in a romantic relationship at the moment, I've always had good social relationships though; made friends easily, always got always with my brother and stepsister, siblings fight but it never got serious, just kid stuff. I still have my best friends from preschool, friends from highschool, College, Nursing school, so yes I have plenty of friends.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

Two things; for one I’ve always been fascinated by medicine and what doctors and nurses can do for people. Nurses get to be a little closer to patients, and that is what drew me to it. Also life circumstances, When I was five my mother succumb to stage four metastatic cervical cancer, it was practically everywhere when she died. At age 20 I discovered I had breast cancer. I've been in remission for almost eight years now. My official Diagnosis was Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), HER2-negative.

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:

Neva has told the truth throughout her application save for one not so tiny thing. She genuinely is one of those honest people you either love to bits or want to run over twice with a truck for being so obnoxiously nice.

She did skip over how it felt to be a college sophomore and discover you've got, maybe not the same type, but the same disease that claimed your mother. Which presented itself as anxiety. for about four years Neva was on a prescription of Ativan for moderate anxiety but she hasn’t had need to have it filled in almost six years. And like any good catholic, Neva doesn’t believe in the supernatural at all. But she doesn’t follow every tenant of the church blindly as her ‘favourite’ brother Gabe is very gay and very married to his husband Terry with two kids in California. A wedding she helped plan, and it was Terry and Gabe's son Adam, who was born deaf, that prompted the entire family to learn ASL.

Neva told her step sister she hated her because when they were 9 and 10 Azunica riled up a beehive and let them have at her, it wouldn't have been so bad if Neveah didn't have a severe bee allergy, to make matter worse it was barely 3 months after their parents wedding, they got over it forgave each other and everything...thought Azunica only send Neva birthday cards with Bee themes.

And you surely noticed she didn’t talk about her own relationships, because she hasn’t had many of note, a couple puppy-love high school relationships and false starts after college. A couple of them might have turned out to be gay, and that might have been a hit to the ego as no girl wants to be the last woman some guy dated before coming out of the closet.

Hands down the biggest lie on Neva’s application is one of omission: She was going to be a doctor, nursing was never her plan at all. She double majored in pre-medicine and biology at UT, but after visiting her top choice medical school, she started having second and third thoughts; she hadn't stopped loving medicine, she just didn't think being a doctor was exactly what she wanted to do. After graduating with honors she decided on nursing and to move out of Texas, was accepted into Johns Hopkins nursing program and the rest is in her app.
