CHARACTER CREATION

The Basics:

Though Hallowsgate has a dark theme to it, day-to-day it runs as an upstanding, up to date mental health facility. As such is has certain guidelines for hiring staff and accepting patient cases. Staff must be competent, and cases must meet certain criteria.

Staff, check here for available positions.
All characters must be over the age of eighteen.
All characters must be legal US citizens or resident aliens, and have a legal US address at time of admission or application.
No characters may keep or otherwise bring children with them. Character pregnancy must be purchased through the rewards system.
We will allow sibling characters as patients provided they are not twins, unless admin permission is given.
We will allow family characters as staff provided they are all over the age of eighteen, and hold a staff position at Hallowsgate.
We will not allow patient and staff cross-over family members. For example, an orderly may not have a sister who is a patient, etc.
Non-Limited Issue patients must absolutely not exhibit symptoms of schizophrenia, psychosis (hearing or seeing things that aren't there), selective mutism, pyromania, or multiple personalities.
Non-limited issue characters may not be severe or over the top criminal cases, such as serial killers, evil genius masterminds, etc. (This does not mean you can't make a murderer, etc, but you must justify why they're in psych care instead of jail.)
Staff may not be mentally afflicted to the point that they cannot perform in their job in a sensible, adult fashion. (Which doesn't mean they can't be a little touched...)
Staff must be of a reasonable age for the position they are applying for, reflecting the years of education and experience they would need for the position.
Staff may not bring patients out of the designated central block area without permission from upper Hallowsgate staff, or without buying a reward.
Patients may not roam outside of the allowed areas without purchasing a reward to do so.
Staff may roam wherever they wish without purchasing a reward to do so.

Personality Disorders

Antisocial Personality Disorder: Antisocial Personality Disorder is described as an Axis II personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which the individual is described as being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity.
Dependent Personality Disorder: Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is a personality disorder that is characterized by a pervasive psychological dependence on other people. This personality disorder is a long-term (chronic) condition.
Histrionic Personality Disorder: Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking, including an excessive need for approval and inappropriately seductive behavior.
Paranoid Personality Disorder: Paranoid personality disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis characterized by paranoia and a pervasive, long-standing suspiciousness and generalized mistrust of others without appropriate founding or provocation.
Avoidant Personality Disorder: Avoidant personality disorder is a personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to negative evaluation, and avoidance of social interaction.
Borderline Personality Disorder: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a personality disorder marked by a prolonged disturbance of personality function, characterized by unusual variability and depth of moods. BPD often manifests itself in idealization and devaluation episodes and chaotic and unstable interpersonal relationships, issues with self-image, identity, and behavior; as well as a disturbance in the individual's sense of self.
Self-Defeating Personality Disorder (Masochistic Personality Disorder): Self-defeating Personality Disorder is a pervasive pattern of self-defeating behavior, beginning by early adulthood. The person may avoid or undermine pleasurable experiences, be drawn to situations or relationships in which he or she will suffer, and prevent others from helping him or her.

Anxiety Disorders

Trichotillomania: Trichotillomania, which is classified as an impulse control disorder, is the compulsive urge to pull out one's own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, distress, and social or functional impairment.
Generalised Anxiety Disorder: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by excessive, uncontrollable and often irrational worry about everyday things that is disproportionate to the actual source of worry.
Phobias: A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, usually defined as a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the sufferer commits to great lengths in avoiding, typically disproportional to the actual danger posed, often being recognized as irrational.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event that results in psychological trauma. Formal diagnostic criteria require that the symptoms last more than one month.
Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is a psychological injury that results from protracted exposure to prolonged social and/or interpersonal trauma with loss of control, and in the context of captivity.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce apprehension, fear, or worry, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the anxiety, or by a combination of both.

Mood Disorders

Major Depressive Disorder: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a mental disorder characterized by an all-encompassing low mood accompanied by low self-esteem, and by loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities.
Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a category of mood disorders defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated energy levels, cognition, and mood with or without one or more depressive episodes.

Sexual Disorders

Sexual Paraphilia: A paraphilia is sexual arousal to objects, situations, or individuals that are not part of normative stimulation. Paraphilia involves sexual arousal and gratification, involving a sexual behavior that is atypical or extreme. As a player, you will need to look up the paraphilia(s) you choose for additional details.

- Voyeurism - Watching others while naked or having sex, generally without their knowledge
Hypersexuality: Hypersexuality is frequent or suddenly increased sexual urges or sexual activity. Hypersexuality is typically associated with lowered sexual inhibitions. Although it can be caused by some medical conditions or medications, in most cases the cause is unknown.
Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder: Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) or sexual aversion disorder is considered as a sexual dysfunction and is characterized as a lack or absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity.

Dissociative & Delusional Disorders

Delusional Disorder: Delusional disorder is an uncommon psychiatric condition in which patients present with symptoms of non-bizarre delusions, but with the absence of prominent hallucinations and no thought disorder, mood disorder, or significant flattening of affect
Stockholm Syndrome: In psychology, Stockholm Syndrome is a term used to describe a psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express empathy and have positive feelings towards their captors, sometimes to the point of defending them.
Dissociative Fugue: A fugue state, is a rare psychiatric disorder characterized by reversible amnesia for personal identity, including the memories, personality and other identifying characteristics of individuality.
Psychogenic Amnesia: Psychogenic amnesia, or dissociative amnesia, is a memory disorder characterized by sudden retrograde autobiographical memory loss, said to occur for a period of time ranging from hours to years. It is characterized by retrospectively reported memory gaps. These gaps involve an inability to recall personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature.
Shared Psychoctic Disorder (Folie à Deux): Folie à deux is a psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief are transmitted from one individual to another. The same syndrome shared by more than two people may be called folie à trois, folie à quatre, folie en famille or even folie à plusieurs ("madness of many").

Somatoform Disorders

Hypochondriasis: Hypochondriasis refers to excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness. This debilitating condition is the result of an inaccurate perception of the body’s condition despite the absence of an actual medical condition.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a type of mental illness, a somatoform disorder, wherein the affected person is concerned with body image, manifested as excessive concern about and preoccupation with a perceived defect of their physical features.
Conversion Disorder: Conversion disorder is a somatoform disorder where patients suffer apparently neurological symptoms, such as numbness, blindness, paralysis, or fits, but without a neurological cause.
Somatization Disorder: Somatization disorder is a somatoform disorder characterized by recurring, multiple, clinically significant complaints about pain, gastrointestinal, sexual and pseudoneurological symptoms.

Sleep Disorders
Many of these should not be used as the primary patient issue.

Primary Insomnia: Insomnia (or sleeplessness) is an individual's report of sleeping difficulties. Primary insomnia is a sleep disorder not attributable to a medical, psychiatric, or environmental cause.
Primary Hypersomnia: Hypersomnia is a disorder characterized by excessive sleepiness, extended sleep time in a 24-hour cycle, and the inability to achieve the feeling of refreshment that usually comes from sleep
Night Terror Disorder: A night terror, also known as a sleep terror, incubus attack, or pavor nocturnus, is a parasomnia disorder, causing feelings of terror or dread, and typically occurring in the first few hours of sleep.
Nightmare Disorder: Nightmare disorder is a sleep disorder characterized by frequent nightmares. The nightmares often portray the individual in a situation that jeopardizes their life or personal safety.
Somnambulism: Sleepwalking, also known as somnambulism, is a sleep disorder belonging to the parasomnia family. Sleepwalkers arise from the slow wave sleep stage in a state of low consciousness and perform activities that are usually performed during a state of full consciousness.
REM Behaviour Disorder: (RBD) is a sleep disorder that involves abnormal behaviour during the sleep phase with rapid eye movement (REM sleep).'RBD' is characterised by the dreamer acting out his or her dreams physically. These dreams often involve kicking, screaming, punching, grabbing, and even jumping out of bed.
Narcolepsy: Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder, or dyssomnia, characterized by excessive sleepiness and sleep attacks at inappropriate times, such as while at work. People with narcolepsy often experience disturbed nocturnal sleep and an abnormal daytime sleep pattern, which often is confused with insomnia.

Reactive Attachment Disorder: Reactive attachment disorder as a condition beginning in infancy, wherein a child fails to form attachments to caregivers, through neglect or abuse. RAD is characterized by disturbed and developmentally inappropriate ways of relating socially such as failure to initiate or respond to most social interactions in an appropriate way—known as the "inhibited" form—or as indiscriminate sociability, such as excessive familiarity with strangers—known as the "disinhibited form".
Diogenes Syndrome: Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, is a disorder characterized by extreme self-neglect, domestic squalor, social withdrawal, apathy, compulsive hoarding of rubbish, and lack of shame.
Münchausen Syndrome By Proxy: Münchausen syndrome by proxy (MSbP or MBP) is a controversial term that is used to describe a behavior pattern in which a caregiver deliberately exaggerates, fabricates, and/or induces physical, psychological, behavioral, and/or mental health problems in those who are in their care.
Münchausen Syndrome: Münchausen syndrome is a psychiatric factitious disorder wherein those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma to draw attention or sympathy to themselves.
Kleptomania: Kleptomania is the inability to refrain from the urge to steal items for reasons other than personal use or financial gain. Some of the main characteristics of the disorder consist of recurring intrusion feelings, an inability to resist the urge to steal, and a release of pressure following the theft.
Intermittant Explosive Disorder: Intermittent explosive disorder (IED) is a behavioral disorder characterized by extreme expressions of anger, often to the point of violence, that are disproportionate to the situation at hand.
Obsessive Love: Obsessive love is a state in which one person feels an overwhelming obsessive desire to possess another person toward whom they feel a strong attraction, with an inability to accept failure or rejection. They may be entirely convinced that their feelings are love, and may reject the idea that their severe obsession is not love.

Eating Disorders

Anorexia Nervosa: Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, as well as a distorted body self-perception. It typically involves excessive weight loss. Anorexia nervosa usually develops during adolescence and early adulthood.
Bulimia Nervosa: Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating and purging, or consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food consumed (purging), typically by vomiting, taking a laxative or diuretic, and/or excessive exercise.
Binge Eating Disorder: Binge eating disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder in the United States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males and is prevalent in up to 30% of those seeking weight loss treatment. Unlike in bulimia, those with BED do not purge, fast or engage in strenuous exercise after binge eating.

Deliberate Self Harm: Self-harm (SH) or deliberate self-harm (DSH) includes self-injury (SI) and self-poisoning and is defined as the intentional, direct injuring of body tissue most often done without suicidal intentions.
Substance Abuse: Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, refers to a maladaptive pattern of use of a substance that is not considered dependent. The term "drug abuse" does not exclude dependency, but is otherwise used in a similar manner in nonmedical contexts.
Prosopagnosia: Prosopagnosia, also called face blindness, is a disorder of face perception where the ability to recognize faces is impaired, while the ability to recognize other objects may be relatively intact.
Apraxia: Apraxia is characterized by loss of the ability to execute or carry out learned purposeful movements, despite having the desire and the physical ability to perform the movements. It is a disorder of motor planning, which may be acquired or developmental, but is not caused by incoordination, sensory loss, or failure to comprehend simple commands.
Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder: Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD) is a disorder characterized by a continual presence of sensory disturbances, most commonly visual, that are reminiscent of those generated by the ingestion of hallucinogenic substances. Previous use of hallucinogens by the person is necessary, but not sufficient, for diagnosis of HPPD.
