Employment Interview

Please list position(s) for which you are applying:

Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

I enjoy working outside in particular so this job would be perfect for me. I worked on my father's ranch from a young age and I soon began to love the whole idea of maintaining buildings and grounds. He sold the ranch about 4 years ago though, which left me without a job. I worked on a project for my local hospital as a landscape gardener for a few years, but I'm now out of a job again. I'd love to be able to work somewhere that would help society, and a hospital seemed ideal. It's not far from where I live either, and when I heard that the place was up and running as a hospital again after all this time... Well, it's going to need a lot of maintaining, isn't it? So it just seemed perfect for someone that enjoys doing such work.

I particularly enjoy gardening-type jobs, but I also enjoy cleaning in general, so any work with outbuildings that aren't used would be a challenge I'd enjoy taking on. Even the more mundane tasks, like mowing the lawn, are tasks that I generally enjoy. I love seeing the end result, regardless of what the task is that I'm doing, and I like to make sure that everything I do looks as good as it can do in the setting I am given.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

I've worked on a ranch for years, and I have a fair bit of experience maintaining the place. Anything from trimming the hedges and mowing the lawns to changing the pool water are things that I have done before. If for whatever reason there are any tasks that need completing here which I haven't already done before at some point, I am a fast learner and I would quickly be able to pick up what needed to be done.

I've also landscaped gardens before for my friends, and I helped my brother to landscape a garden for Highland Hospital in Charleston. If the hospital was looking for something to look good out the front, I'd be happy to give that a go as well, naturally.

Do you posses the necessary qualifications for the position(s) for which you are applying? If yes, please list them below:

I've been to college where I studied outdoor maintenance, which included garden and building maintenance. I took the course so that I was able to work on my father's ranch without him having to train me himself, and it was a great help. I also took a first aid course as well while I was working at the previous hospital I landscaped the gardens for. I feel this could be useful for working in a hospital again, in case any of the patients have any accidents while they are outside.

What other qualifications or skills do you possess which you feel will aid your performance in the chosen position(s)?:

I am a pretty good gardener. I can identify the majority of plants without needing any help from literature or experts. I also like to think I'm a good listener, so if any of the patients happen to stumble across me in the grounds and want to talk, I guess I'd be there for them. Of course I would have to pass anything they told me on to my superior, or to their therapist, should it be important.

I did take Psychology in High School, which could help me to understand the needs of the patients at Hallowsgate Hospital, given that they are all likely to have different, yet specific, needs.

Have you worked in this type of position or facility before? If so, where and when?:

I have never worked specifically in a hospital of this sort before, but I did work briefly in a hospital in Charleston on a landscaping project. That was about 3 years ago that I started that, and it was a good couple of years that I was working on that project. My brother is a landscape gardener and he works there full time, so I was helping him there while I was out of a job. Now that the project is finished though, I would like to continue to work in that sort of environment, where I can help people by making their surroundings safer and more comfrotable.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions and responsibilities there:

I worked as a landscape gardener at Highland Hospital in Charleston. My responsibilites there were essentially to make an enjoyable environment for patients, staff and visitors to the hospital to enjoy during their time there.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

My education into outdoor maintenance will help me to be able to maintain the grounds and Exterior of Hallowsgate Hospital to a more than satisfactory level. Having worked in a hospital previously as well, I enjoy talking to the patients and meeting a variety of different people from different backgrounds.

Working within this environment will allow me to learn more about maintenance, given the current level of maintenance required. I think that I will be able to progress considerably by working in a hospital, and I will be able to aid society; something which I have always wanted to do more of.

I believe that I have the knowledge and understanding of the work required to be able to fulfil the job as necessary.

Psychological Screening

Please describe yourself to the best of your ability, in only five words. ('And' will not count towards these.):

Hard-working, passionate, friendly, strong and focused.

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

I generally use gardening as a way to relax. It's a hobby, as well as a job, I guess. Sometimes I'll go out with friends, maybe have a drink or two with them, or I'll just watch the TV for a few hours. I'm fairly easy-going in general, to be honest. I often go for a run if I feel I need a physical outlet, though, and I find that this usually does the trick when watching TV or socialising doesn't.

Please list three traits about yourself that you consider negative, and three traits about yourself that you consider positive:

Three traits about myself which I consider to be negative are; I am very hard-working (which on it's own is of course a good trait) but I have been known to work until I practically collapse from exhaustion. I need reminding at times that I should take a break. Another negative trait would be that I often put others before myself, and I can end up becoming something of a pushover. I can be something of a perfectionist, which can mean that my work isn't completed as quickly as it ought to be if I spend too much time on the details.

Three positive traits about myself in my opinion are that I will not give up on a task until I am satisfied with the outcome. I am hard-working, and will always get the job done. Another positive trait would be that I am a friendly person that will always talk to anyone that wants to talk. Finally, I would say that being a perfectionist could also be considered a positive trait because it means that I will always try to do my job to the best of my ability.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I would not change anything, for the past has made me the person I am today.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

If it was something I was wholly and morally against doing, I would refuse the task. However, I would recommend another member of staff that might be able to complete the task if it was one that was important. If this was not possible, I would try to come to some agreement or compromise which I didn't feel so opposed to doing.

If the task was simply something I didn't like doing, I wouldn't complain, however. I would simply get on with the task. We all have to do things we don't like sometimes, that's just how life is, but as long as it wasn't something I was morally opposed to doing, I would still complete the task.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

Inform my superior. I don't believe that stealing, breaking the rules or endangering the lives of others is something that anyone should do, regardless of their reasons. If it was an emergency, for example the life of a patient or one of my co-workers was seriously at risk, I would dial 911 and do what I could to remedy the situation before the appropriate services arrived.

If your application for employment to Hallowsgate Hospital is approved, will you agree to sign a full non-disclosure agreement, knowing that you would be unable to talk about any treatments or the patients with anyone not also employed by Hallowsgate Hospital?:

Of course. I wouldn't expect anything less.

Environmental Screening

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I've lived in Charleston all my life. I like living there, to be honest. It's a nice place for the most part. Everywhere has a few bad areas I think, but I found it to be a generally okay sort of place. From a young age living there, I showed an interest in gardening. There are photographs of my as a three year old boy pulling up weeds in the back yard. My parents were the sort to encourage creativity and playfulness, and I think that attributed to the fact that both myself and my brother work in gardening and my sisters work in textiles and photography now. I'm glad they did encourage our creative sides though, because I think it has been beneficial now.

I am quite close to my older brother, Tyler. We spend quite a lot of time together, and even have what is essentially the same job. He is only 13 months older than me, and we have always been near enough inseparable. My little sisters, Cynthia and Candace are twins. They were born three years after me. We've always been fairly close as well, but I've always been closer to my brother because we both enjoy the same things, and for the most part we agree about things as well. It made school, and growing up in general, a whole lot easier, having him there.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

If I'm honest, I wouldn't say I have loads of friends. I'll talk to anyone, like I said before, but I would only class a few people as real friends. And I prefer it that way. I'd rather have a few close friends than a lot of acquaintences. As for relationships, well, my work tends to get in the way of those. I've had a few girlfriends, but nothing too serious. Work comes first, at least for now.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

I've always loved being outdoors. I enjoy gardening. To be honest, I even enjoy cleaning. A job in maintenance just seemed to be perfect for me because there are so many aspects to it that I enjoy. It's like doing my hobby as a job every day. I would like to pursue this career path at Hallowsgate Hospital because I feel that it would be beneficial for myself, and for the community, to work within the community. It will encourage me to be more social and less hard-working at times, but also give me a purpose for the work that I am producing.

Were you ever a member of the armed forces or of a law enforcement or security agency? If yes, please list rank and branch, or company name and location:

I was not.

Do/Did you ever abuse controlled substances, including but not limited to alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs and tobacco?:

I drink sometimes, usually socially.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If yes, please list conviction(s) and served sentence(s) below:

Out of Character Section

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:

((Remember, if you put all their back story as a secret, we won't be able to admit them to Hallowsgate! This section is for secrets only, not the entire character history. We need most of the info in the main app so we can process it!))

While Brett says that he only drinks socially, he in fact drinks far more than he has admitted on his application. At times, he has been known to suffer from insomnia, but it wouldn't keep him from his work. On the contrary, it tends to make him more likely to want to work, in fact, because it gives him something to do when he can't sleep. He often sits up in his room and draws out garden plans, or writes shopping lists of items he needs to buy for the work he needs to carry out.

He is also an extremely good cook, but he never really cooks for anyone else. He wants to find someone that will make him have time away from his work. He'd like to find love at some point, and maybe Hallowsgate could be the place that he could do that. In the past, he has never really loved anyone, having never found that connection. He has had girlfriends, but nothing that lasted.

Finally, he has used drugs recreationally in the past, but he doesn't like to talk about that because he sees it as a big mistake. He had a close friend die of an overdose and now he despises drugs and wouldn't touch them. Realistically, he should have said that he would change that night in his application, but he doesn't want to come across as needing help himself, because as far as he is concerned, he doesn't.
