Employment Interview

Please list position(s) for which you are applying:

I’m applying for the position of mechanic

Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

Honestly? I moved from Boston to West Virginia last year to work at the Molinelli Meat Packing Plant as a maintenance mechanic but unfortunately the factory was closed very recently. I’m hoping to stay in West Virginia and have been applying for jobs in the area- this one caught my eye, I guess.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

I used to work in my grandfather’s repair shop and he was the one that got me into cars and machines- got me to love fixing things and understanding the way that things work. That man worked me to the bone, let me tell you, and I’m glad he did because I know for a fact that I’m great at what I do.

More than that, my grandfather taught me to respect older models of car and the sensitive way they need to be handled. I think I would suit the maintenance and care of a historic building like Hallowsgate down to the ground and that’s what makes me the best candidate for the position.

Do you posses the necessary qualifications for the position(s) for which you are applying? If yes, please list them below:

High school diploma
HVAC Certification

What other qualifications or skills do you possess which you feel will aid your performance in the chosen position(s)?:

ASE Certification.
Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the maintenance trades
Knowledge of electric motors, generators, pumps, pressure systems, water systems and other
equipment and systems found in state buildings and facilities
Knowledge of the servicing and maintenance of simple power, heating, and cooling unit
Ability to do routine mechanical or electrical maintenance and care for tools and equipment
Repair of general non mechanical wear and tear.

Have you worked in this type of position or facility before? If so, where and when?:

I have never worked as a mechanic for a hospital before, no.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions and responsibilities there:

At the Molinelli Meat Packing plant I was required to maintain and repair equipment, follow technical diagrams and operations manuals, to perform regular inspection of equipment to ensure everything was in good order using cranes, power tools and hand tools.

The company also paid for my HVAC certification.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

I am confident in my mechanical knowledge and I know that I would be able to get a good grasp on any of the systems found in and around Hallowsgate

Psychological Screening

Please describe yourself to the best of your ability, in only five words. ('And' will not count towards these.):

Confident, Productive, Energetic, Resourceful, Determined

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

I have always preferred to be active in times of stress, trying to make time to unwind with activities that I enjoy. I’ve found that stressful situations are more easily managed by expressing my feelings rather than internalising them, and can’t be done without acceptance and forgiveness, learning to let go of the things we can’t control.

Please list three traits about yourself that you consider negative, and three traits about yourself that you consider positive:

I’m a very passionate person, which I guess could be both negative and positive- I can be very intense in regards to the things that I believe in, which I’ve heard is a little exhausting. I’m pig headed and occasionally arrogant and if you spoke to my seventh grade teacher, he’d say I talked too much!

But I care a lot about the people close to me- I try to be a decent guy to my family and my buddies. I stand by my convictions and I’m good at what I do.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I would have told my grandfather I appreciated him more before he died. He believed in me more than anybody else and I’m trying to make him proud now.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

If it felt like a big deal to me, I wouldn’t do it. End of story.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

I’d look carefully at the situation before making a move one way or the other, but if my friend was totally, unjustifiably in the wrong then I would have to turn them in.

If your application for employment to Hallowsgate Hospital is approved, will you agree to sign a full non-disclosure agreement, knowing that you would be unable to talk about any treatments or the patients with anyone not also employed by Hallowsgate Hospital?:

I will agree

Environmental Screening

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I grew up in West End, Boston in a large Irish Catholic community with my grandmother and grandfather above my grandfather’s automotive repair shop. It was a busy and chaotic sort of life with people passing through every day, staying for supper, talking in the workshop- my grandfather was a popular and respected man within our community.

My mom was young when she gave birth to me and I was raised with my four youngest uncles who were more like brothers to me than anything else. It was a very good life, but pretty hectic; my grandparents were very loving people and though she was never my primary caregiver I still maintain a friendly relationship with my mom.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

I never wanted for friends for most of my life, throughout school and then into work and I get on very well with my family. I’m fortunate to have met a very good group of people in West Virginia and I guess that’s part of the reason why I’m looking to stay here.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

This has been my life since I was an itty bitty pip squeak really. Machines remind me of my grandfather, I like fixing things, getting messy and being able to tangibly see what’s changed after a day’s work. I could never ever see myself behind a desk.

Were you ever a member of the armed forces or of a law enforcement or security agency? If yes, please list rank and branch, or company name and location:

No

Do/Did you ever abuse controlled substances, including but not limited to alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs and tobacco?:

I smoke and I like a beer after a day’s work ,but that’s about it.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If yes, please list conviction(s) and served sentence(s) below:

No

Out of Character Section

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:

Scooter has left quite a bit out of his application- the most striking information being the fact that he is, like his mother, a recovering addict; there was a period when he took a cocktail of things he could find, but his drug of choice is cocaine . It happened after falling in with the wrong crowd, being the sort of kid who wanted to run with the bad boys and impress the 'tough guys' of the neighborhood which he figured in a twisted way would make his grandfather proud. His habit was funded by his grandfather’s side business of jacking cars and selling them on. Scooter isn’t lying when he says he’s a skilled mechanic; he can steal almost any car in record time. That Scooter never had to do time- brought in for questioning, sure, but never convicted- is some kind of minor miracle, but he’s long suspected that his grandfather was far better connected than he ever let on.

While being for the most part a high functioning coke addict, Scooter hit bottom when his grandfather died of liver cancer and went on what can only be described as a six month long cocaine bender at the age of 23, and came out the other side determined to get off the stuff- not through any personal tragedy, or life changing event, honestly Scooter can’t even remember the moment, but there was an epiphany out of nowhere that made Scooter want to get clean, made him realize that he couldn't be that guy anymore. He was done with coke, done with the cars. Maybe it was another night in a dealers festering shit hole apartment, maybe he woke up next to one tooth rotted junkie girl in a pile of his own vomit one time too often, maybe it was even drug induced rambling or maybe he just got one minute of quiet to really think and really see himself. Whatever happened, Scooter knows he needs to do whatever it takes not to go back there.

Scooter was attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings in Boston- it was hard going and he had the occasional relapse, due to the friends and the people he was still associating with which made him want a change of scene. Scooter is thirteen months sober right now and still attending meetings in Charleston- one of the main reasons he wants to stay in the area.

He’s totally lying on the turning a friend in question. Scooter’s grandfather taught him never to tattle on anyone period. Ramseys don’t do that. Also Scooter has a nasty habit of referring to himself in the third person as ‘The Scoot’. It’s as annoying as it sounds.
