      HEIGHT: 5'8"

      ETHNICITY: Caucasian (Russian)

Employment Interview

Please list position(s) for which you are applying:

Security Guard

Please explain why you are applying for the position(s):

I wish to protect and defend the patients of your institution, and I feel that it is at a place like Hallowsgate that I will be able to fulfil the goal "to protect and serve" that I swore when I attended the Academy.

Why do you feel you would be the best candidate for the position(s)?:

I have served two years with the Okeechobee Police Department and recently received commendation from the police chief himself. I am skilled in both armed and unarmed combat and able to calm unruly perpetrators easily.

Do you posses the necessary qualifications for the position(s) for which you are applying? If yes, please list them below:

Yes. As I mentioned, I have served two years in the Okeechobee Police Department. I was also in JROTC in high school, where I attained officer rank.

What other qualifications or skills do you possess which you feel will aid your performance in the chosen position(s)?:

I am told that I have a gift in handling the mentally ill. Additionally, I am completely fluent in both Russian and English, and can carry on a passable conversation in German.

Have you worked in this type of position or facility before? If so, where and when?:

I have never worked in a mental facility before, but as I have said repeatedly, I served my two years as a police officer, and I feel I have done much the same thing that I will be doing at your facility. My partner and I are often called out on 5150's--mentally ill persons--and my partner usually leaves it to me to deal with these people while he handles the families. I have found that I can frequently help the people to trust me, even through their illnesses. Usually, of course, the 5150's are Alzheimer's patients--this is Florida, after all, and we have a great deal of retired persons here--but I have talked down my share of "jumpers" suffering from severe depression.

Please describe your most recent employment experiences, including your positions and responsibilities there:

As an officer with the OPD, I am part of a two-man team that patrols the street in a "black-and-white" unit. My partner and I respond to burglaries, murders, domestic disputes, and a number of other incidents to which the police are called. I must act with discretion and restraint, and refrain from using excessive force or embarrassing the department. This was my first and only job.

I mentioned above that I recently received commendation from the Chief of Police. My partner had called in a Code 8 (restroom break), and we had gone into a fast-food restaurant to use the facilities. Suddenly a man came barreling into the building waving a gun, shot into the men's restroom, dragged out my partner, and screamed for the whole restaurant to hear that he would shoot my partner through the head unless the owner came out immediately. I ran out to the car, radioed in an 11-99 (officer needs help) with a 417 (person with a gun) and was instructed to try to talk to the man, but under no circumstances to touch him until backup arrived. When I returned inside, I spoke to the 417 and somehow managed to convince him to put the gun down and let my partner go, moments before the backup team arrived. The man turned out to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia; he suffered from the delusion that the restaurant's mascot was controlling his thoughts. It was this that earned me my commendation.

How do you think your previous education and employment experiences will aid your performance within the chosen position(s)?:

At the risk of rehashing the same answers repeatedly, I must say that I feel having actually worked as a police officer will help me to handle any issues that come up. Moreover, I have proven that I am strong enough, dependable enough, and level-headed enough to handle any problems that may arise.

Psychological Screening

Please describe yourself to the best of your ability, in only five words. ('And' will not count towards these.):

One who doesn't mess around.

What methods would you employ in order to relax during times of stress, and how effective do you think these have been in the past?:

I play the violin or the piano. The more stressed I am, the more complicated the piece I will play. It always helps me, for there is nothing more calming than getting thoroughly lost in Locatelli's The Harmonic Labyrinth.

Please list three traits about yourself that you consider negative, and three traits about yourself that you consider positive:

In the negative, I have a rather skewed sense of humor (which has, on occasion, gotten me in trouble), I have a caffeine dependency, and I do sometimes overstep my boundaries. In the positive, I am usually quite patient, I am good at talking to the mentally ill, and I am dutifully obedient.

Describe one event in your life that you would change if you could, and why:

I can think of nothing I would change. I worked hard to get where I am and everything I have experienced has made me the person I am today.

If a superior gave you a task to complete, to which you were wholly, morally opposed, what would you do?:

Mine is not to question. Mine is only to do as I have been told. I would save any and all moral postulizing for later.

If you caught a friend and co-worker stealing from your place of employment, breaking rules, and/or endangering the safety of others, what would you do?:

I would bring that person to his or her superior immediately and explain what I had seen. Rules are not written to be broken.

If your application for employment to Hallowsgate Hospital is approved, will you agree to sign a full non-disclosure agreement, knowing that you would be unable to talk about any treatments or the patients with anyone not also employed by Hallowsgate Hospital?:

Environmental Screening

Where did you grow up, and what was it like there?:

I grew up here in Okeechobee. It was a small town, but I never grew up feeling trapped. I got a first-rate education and was given opportunities I would never have had in Russia. As a child I swam in the lake, climbed trees, and ran the neighborhoods without fear. I grew up with my father, Ivan Dmitreyovich Ilyushin, and my mother, Aleksandra Andreiovnya Ilyushin, both of whom immigrated from Russia when Mama was pregnant with my oldest brother. I also have two older brothers, Anton Ivanovich--Anton--and Pyotr Ivanovich--Petya, and an older sister, Anna Ivanovnya--Annoushka, or just Noushka. Anton is the oldest, then Noushka, then Petya, then me.

What are/were your social interactions like? Do/did you have many friends and/or relationships?:

I had a few friends in elementary and middle school, but mostly I kept to myself and my brothers and sister--we have always been incredibly close. In high school I made fast friends with the other members of the JROTC. Most of them went into the military, or to college; I chose to join the OPD. My first day at the Police Academy I chummed up with another young woman, a year or two my senior, named Rita Hepworth. Rita in turn introduced me to a few other women in the class. I also met a few of the men going through the academy with us, and although they at first ridiculed me--ridiculed all of us female cadets--within a month I had proven that I could out-run AND out-shoot any man in the Academy. There is a group of about ten of us--Rita, three other girls, five guys, and myself--who get together once in a while for a drink and a chat, when our schedules line up. I am also very close friends with my partner, Officer James Mallory.

What prompted you to pursue the career path you are now following?:

I had thought to join the Army, and to that end I enrolled in JROTC in high school. But when I was sixteen, I witnessed a pair of policewomen arrest a man who was attempting to shoot them down in the middle of the street, and I thought that this was the noblest occupation of all. Besides, female prisoners--and victims--feel better knowing that a female officer is there for them. After two days at the Academy I knew I had made the right choice.

Were you ever a member of the armed forces or of a law enforcement or security agency? If yes, please list rank and branch, or company name and location:

I am currently a Road Patrol Officer for the Okeechobee Police Department in Okeechobee, Florida.

Do/Did you ever abuse controlled substances, including but not limited to alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs and tobacco?:

No. I'm a social drinker, but hardly an alcoholic, and I don't smoke.

Have you ever been convicted of a crime? If yes, please list conviction(s) and served sentence(s) below:

Out of Character Section

What are they not telling us? What secrets do they have to hide? What back story are we not hearing? This is where you can tell us all the things your character wouldn't put on an application, or others don't know.:

Two days after Zoya got her badge and was assigned to the patrol unit, one of the three sergeants called her into his office. He had taken a liking to her, he said, and wanted to make her his "personal project." He then began kissing her. Zoya asked him to stop, but he told her that if she protested, screamed, or told a soul, it would be his word against hers, and everyone knew that policewomen lied--especially her, since she was known to have been "easy" in high school. He would get her fired, she would never work in the town again, and her life would, in general, be hell. Zoya had always been obedient to her superiors, so she submitted to the harassment. After a few months, he began forcing her to have sex with him before or after her shift.

The catalyst for her desire to leave the OPD came about seven weeks ago. She received a blow to the stomach from a drunk she was helping her partner to subdue. She felt a terrible pain, went into the bathroom back at the station, and discovered she had had a miscarriage--she had not even known she was pregnant. She told no one, not even her brothers, whom she adores, or her partner, whom she trusts more than anyone, but began quietly looking for a new job, hoping to escape the sergeant.

Incidentally, she does not have any romantic feelings towards her partner; she cares about him deeply, and considers him her best friend, but she is not in love with him.

This application is currently pending. Below, you'll find the reasons for this pending notice. If you wish to continue the application process, please follow the points laid out below by a member of Hallowsgate's staff.

  • Zoya is almost ready for us here at Hallowsgate but fear not! This will be quick and painless. I'm not so sure the incest and long term abuse fits the path that Zoya is currently on. Becoming a cop, especially as a woman unfortunately, requires an unbelievable amount of strength that I just don't think a victim like her would have. Her brother has enough pull to keep her out of the army so why would he allow her into a profession that would get him even more jail time if she ever squealed? Zoya's mental state would have been broken down by her abuser and if she's controlled enough to not tell why would she run away at all? I recommend dropping the incest and perhaps shifting the abuse to a man on the force with her. A superior office could hold all the power over her and because she'd fear losing her career she'd keep quiet. The pregnancy could still be the kick in the pants to make her run.
  • I feel like there's information missing from Zoya's application or things she's just not going into that would help us get to know her better. She says repeatedly she's skilled at handling mental patients but how does she know that? Where has she encountered people with serious mental illness? She's answered every question but it's hard to hear voice in them. Give us a little more detail in her answers and really explore her and how she's coping with what's happened to her and the front she puts up for the world.

Please reply to this thread once you have edited your application, to let us know, and a member of Hallowsgate's staff will review your application again at our next possible convenience.

Edited. Hopefully this works out a little better; I was never really happy with the incest thing anyway, so thanks for letting me know it wasn't working right. And I tried to put in more of Zoya.
